Meet Adam
I was a regular person, just minding my own business, until about 2008. I was at the gym, on the exercise bike, and I glanced up at the TV to see the news. George W. Bush was thinking about bailing out the banks, insurance companies and other things, as well. I thought to myself, “Wait a minute. We learned about this in economics class. You’re not supposed to do that.” I prayed he wouldn’t do it, but he did.
A little while later, another guy came on TV and said that he wanted to give us universal health care. I said to myself, “Wait a minute. We learned about that too. That’s Socialist. Certainly America isn’t going to vote for this guy.” America did vote for that guy.
It was then that I knew something was really wrong with our country. I thought and prayed about it. I decided to start learning about how the country should be run, and what made it great in the first place.
I began reading about economics, the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, the Declaration, American history and the proper role of government. I devoured educational podcasts and started really paying attention to the news.
Since then, I’ve given myself about a 16-year education on these topics and more. I’ve taught the subject in various settings, and I’ve worked at non-profits to advance these ideas.
Recently, I started thinking that I should try and apply these principles more directly. Maybe I should be the one creating the policies and casting the votes.
After attending a candidate-interest meeting, I discovered that there was no one running against the incumbent in my House district. People didn’t even have an option to vote for someone else. With prayer and encouragement from local leadership, I decided that I was really doing this. I am running for office!
